QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in exercise science, with Honours or equivalence and be eligible for PhD enrolment (or already enrolled in PhD studies in exercise oncology)
  • Eligibility for Accredited Exercise Physiologist status with ESSA
  • Clinical experience with prescribing exercise to chronic disease populations
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Experience working in a professional/team setting
  • Desire to obtain a PhD in exercise oncology.

Desirable

  • Experience in a research role (paid or volunteer)
  • Previous experience in a role involving one-on-one communication with the public, health professionals or policy makers
  • Experience in conducting interviews.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Essential

  • Demonstrated high-level organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) with a diverse range of individuals and groups
  • An understanding of ethical principles as they relate to research conduct.

Desirable

  • Experience using digital research and referencing tools such as Endnote, Zotero, Covidence, Qualtrics, NVivo, SPSS, R, Mplus, STATA, SAS and/or similar.

Responsibilities:

The role is to embed economic evaluation within projects contributing to the Cancer Council Queensland’s program of research. This includes quantifying costs and benefits associated with activities that seek to improve cancer prevention, access and participation in cancer screening, and prevention of cancer-related morbidity and improving quality of life and survival following cancer.

Under the supervision of the Research Leads, the Postdoctoral Fellow will:

  • Undertake health economic analyses using available data associated with Cancer Council Queensland research projects
  • Undertake health economic analyses of Cancer Council Queensland current services and quantify potential cost-benefit that could be realised through modifications to service delivery
  • Actively contribute to the conduct and co-ordination of cancer research projects and where appropriate, contribute to other health research initiatives within the research centre
  • Manage day-to-day operation of cancer research projects which may include management of project budgets and reporting as appropriate
  • Prepare/assist in the preparation of grant applications for research funding
  • Publish in high quality, peer-reviewed journals
  • Present results in various formats and arenas, including scientific and policy publications and presentations to academic and other audiences
  • Foster and participate in multidisciplinary research alliances and collaborative projects with research partners and national and international collaborators.

This role is a Fixed-Term contract for two (2) years, working 37.5 hours per week.
