HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. Pursues research along a focused line of inquiry leading to development of manuscript(s).
This position will be in support of research conducted in the laboratories of Dr. Morgane Rolland at the U.S. Military HIV Research Program in the Viral Genomic Section and Systems Serology Core: Dr. Rolland’s Lab. The lab focuses on understanding infectious disease dynamics, particularly for HIV-1, and translating this knowledge to develop vaccines. The applicant will conduct laboratory assays. Relevant skills desired include some of the following: 1) PCR amplification and sequencing (Sanger or deep sequencing); 2) molecular cloning; 3) bacterial or mammalian cell culture.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Doctoral degree in life science.
  • Minimum of 0-5 years experience required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Has performed and developed specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which will involve specialized procedures such as extraction of nucleic acids, molecular analysis of specific RNA transcripts by quantitative RT-PCR, endpoint/SGA/ real-time PCR, conventional and deep sequencing, DNA cloning and generating infectious molecular clones.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development.
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
  • Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures.
  • Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.
  • Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role
