Description:

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN COMPUTER VISION AND MACHINE LEARNING (HORAO PROJECT)80 - 100 %

University Institute of Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroimaging
01.04.2024 or by arrangement
Limited term until March 2026
HORAO is an SNF funded multidisciplinary project between Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology and Pathology (Bern) and the Laboratory of Physics of Interfaces and Thin Films, (LPICM) École Polytechnique, Paris, focused on the imaging of brain tissue during neurosurgery. We hope to enable surgeons to distinguish between highly organized healthy white matter and tumor-infiltrated tissue using imaging based on polarized light.

Tasks

  • Development and implementation of CNN architectures working on polarimetric data.
  • Identification and robust tracking of surface-level white-matter fibres in imaging from ex-vivo samples.
  • Detection, localization and classification of tumors, using weakly labelled data from in surgically removed tissue.
  • Transfer of algorithms from ex-vivo initial data to an in-vivo prototype
  • Validation of fibre directions by comparison with tractography derived from diffusion imaging.¨

Requirements

  • PhD in a scientific discipline with a strong mathematical and computational component.
  • Good knowledge of python and experience with a deep learning framework (Tensorflow or Pytorch): publications in deep learning applications.
  • Previous experience optimising GPU and AI-model libraries for deployment is a plus.
  • Previous experience with GPU-accelerated linear algebra libraries (CuPy, Jax) is a plus.

We offer
We are offering a position as a post-doc in one of the largest Neuroradiology Departments in Europe. The position is based at the Support Center for Advanced Neuroimaging, Inselspital Bern, Switzerland. Prior knowledge of medical imaging is appreciated but not required: a desire to develop solutions to real-world problems is essential. You will work in an interdisciplinary team of physicists, biomedical engineers, computer scientists and medical doctors.
The position is available from April 2024 or upon availability. We embrace diversity and equal opportunity. The official language at the Lab is English.
