Description:

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Theoretical Atomic Physics.
The post is available for a fixed-term duration of 24 months and is full time.
This project will involve developing an existing widely-used atomic physics model, GRASP, to include new and more accurate methods to calculate quantum electrodynamic corrections to energy levels.
The successful candidate will develop and implement new quantum electrodynamic corrections in the computational framework of the GRASP code. The successful candidate will also be expected to assess the accuracy of the modelling by comparison to existing experimental data.
The role will involve liaison with other users and developers of GRASP from different institutions and will require the post holder to present results of their work to different audiences at national and international conferences.
The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.
Applicants should hold a PhD, or be close to completion, in physics or a related field.
Previous experience in the field of either theoretical atomic physics and / or theoretical quantum electrodynamics will be an advantage.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate experience in modern numerical modelling techniques.
Please direct enquiries about the role to Professor Steven Rose (steven.rose@physics.ox.ac.uk)
Only applications received before midday (UK time) 3 July 2024 can be considered. You will be required to upload a statement of research interests, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
