General Notes
The Memory and Aging Lab in the Department of Psychology at UT Austin is seeking one to two postdoctoral research fellows to spearhead research related to a new NIH multi-year grant exploring the neurocognitive mechanisms by which depression contributes to episodic memory impairments and memory decline, and how age exacerbates these impairments, in adults across their lifespan. This is a multi-site project in collaboration with Georgia State University. Studies utilize task-based fMRI, memory task design, clinical interviews, social determinants of health, multimodal imaging, univariate, and multivariate statistical analyses. Per University policy, this assignment is a temporary training position for a recent PhD graduate. This initial assignment and any renewals to this position cannot exceed five years from the start date.

Purpose
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be working on research related to a new NIH multi-year grant exploring the neurocognitive mechanisms by which depression contributes to episodic memory impairments and memory decline, and how age exacerbates these impairments, in adults across their lifespan.

Responsibilities

  • Design fMRI-compatible experiments
  • Collect behavioral, clinical and cognitive, functional and structural MRI data
  • Analyze data
  • Write scientific manuscripts and present research
  • Mentor research assistants

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in psychology, neuroscience, public health, engineering, or a related field (received no more than three years prior to the start date).
  • Evidence of peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience collecting and analyzing fMRI or other MRI data
  • Interest and/or experience in human cognition, particularly episodic memory or emotional cognition, and/or cognitive aging research
  • Demonstrated ability to use one or more programming languages for data analysis (i.e., Python, Matlab, RStudio, etc.)
  • Interest and/or experience serving as a mentor to junior research assistants working on the project with you

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest and/or experience in working with different populations and the social determinants of health disparities
  • Interest and/or experience in conducting clinical assessments of depression
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish

Salary Range
$56,484-$60,000 depending upon experience

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
