Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the newly established multidisciplinary Oxford-GSK Institute for Molecular & Computational Medicine (IMCM) operating within Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM) in collaboration with Nuffield Department of Clinical Neuroscience (NDCN), Nuffield Department of Population Health (NDPH) and Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics (DPAG).
The Institute will bring together the very best scientific, clinical, technological and computational expertise from Oxford University and GSK to form unique industry/academic partnership.
In this role you will undertake a multidisciplinary approach to discovering and validating compartment-specific tau interacting proteins in cellular models of tauopathy and in human post-mortem brain tissue. You will be responsible for the culture/characterisation cell models of tauopathy (immortalised and iPSC-derived) and will be carrying out human brain tissue homogenisation/fractionation, biochemical characterisation of resultant lysates, storage, and curation of samples. You will be tasked with contributing ideas for new research projects, develop ideas and preliminary data for generating research income, and present detailed research proposals to senior researchers.
You will also be responsible for sample preparation for mass spectrometry techniques (labelled/unlabelled, cross-linking, hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX)), transcriptomics, expansion microscopy, and cryo-electron microscopy/tomography. You will be managing your own academic research and administrative activities, including small scale project management, to co-ordination of multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.
It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in Neuroscience, Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics/Genomics or related area. You will have research experience in the field of neurodegeneration and the field of Tauopathies/Alzheimer’s Disease/Frontotemporal, Dementia as well as, experience in general molecular biology techniques (eg. subcellular fractionation, immunoprecipitation, immunoblotting, and microscopy). You will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings and demonstrate strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. Finally, you will be able to contribute ideas for new research projects and research income generation.
