Description:
We are seeking to appoint a talented, hard-working Postdoctoral Researcher in Circadian Neuroscience with a passion for neuroscience research. This project follows on from exciting findings by our group that the cryptochromes regulate voltage gated sodium channels in pain sensory nerves. Through better understanding of the mechanism, we aim to progress to development of drugs that can safely reduce pain without disrupting cellular clock function. You will utilise induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) derived nociceptors – in which you will perform electrophysiological studies, undertake genome engineering to generate required reporter lines - and perform mass-spectrometry proteomics to identify phosphorylation patterns and binding partners of the cryptochromes.
You will work closely others in the Cader group who are researching the same topic. You will be expected to develop or optimise the relevant methods and tools. You will also be expected to provide support and guidance to research students where appropriate. You will also contribute to other complementary research in the lab group.
DESIRABLE SELECTION CRITERIA
- Proven experience and success with human stem cell neuronal differentiation protocols
- Ability to differentiate iPSC into nociceptors
- Experience with genome engineering in human cells
- Experience with functional cellular assays e.g. calcium imaging, MEA
- Good publication track record and experience of presenting work at meetings
