Responsibilities:
- At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research.
- The Department of Materials, Textiles and Chemical engineering is looking for a scientific collaborator for modeling of polymer synthesis at the rate coefficient, kinetic and process level.
- Polymeric materials - allowing to realize both commodity and high-tech applications – are widely used in many important industrial sectors, such as construction, information technology and health care, as well as in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry. Designing polymer production processes is not only needed to expand these industries’ application ranges but also to avoid the formation of off-spec material and to make sure that energy resources are optimally used.
- The current project utilize simulations to support the further development polymers with many distributed variables. Specific emphasis is on the evaluation of rate coefficients (e.g. Gaussian), kinetics (e.g. Monte Carlo) and process simulation (e.g. Aspen and Matlab).
- The goal is to take control over the entire molecular structure of individual polymer chains, taking into account economic and environmental constraints. Important aspects covered are a fundamental understanding of the (de)polymerisation kinetics, sustainable scale-up, and the detailed characterisation of polymer products so that structure-property relations can be identified. Modeling of polymerization processing with branching is specifically a task.
