Description:

An opportunity has arisen within the Operations department at Lynemouth Power Station to recruit a Power Plant Operator.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation of a high-pressure boiler and the 140Mwe Turbo Alternator Unit. The role is critical to the safe and efficient operation of the generating units.
Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Shift Manager, the responsibilities will include:

  • Working as part of a shift team to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the generating units.
  • Undertaking plant and unit inspections, monitoring plant status and responding to alarms.
  • Undertaking routine plant change overs as well as identifying defect and potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Identifying and recording any defects and safety issues identified during plant inspections. In the Maintenance Management system.
  • Gathering, analysing, interpreting, and logging plant performance data relevant to the area under your control and implementing changes to improve operational efficiency with the assistance of the Power Plant Controller(s) as required.
  • Undertaking standard operational duties in one of the three roles; Unit Operator, General Duties Operator or Ash Plant Operator.
  • Removing plant from service and assisting in the isolating of plant in readiness for the issue of safety documents.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Background

  • Experience / knowledge of safe systems of work, including permit to work, method statements and risk assessments.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, often under pressure and working to tight timescales.
  • Experience of working in heavy industrial or engineering environments, preferably power generation.

Qualifications

  • 5 GCSE’s or equivalent, including Maths and English at Level 4 / grade C (essential).
  • Level 3 qualification e.g., ONC, NVQ, A-level, in either Maths, Science, Design & Technology, or similar relevant subject (essential).
  • HNC (level 4) in Engineering, or similar relevant subject (desirable).
  • Equivalent relevant experience in power generation at a similar level (desirable).
