Description:
POWER SOLUTIONS & VESTAS QUALITY > APPLICATIONS, CONTROLS & ELECTRICAL > POWER PLANT INTEGRATION & ANALYSIS
In Power System Integration we focus on product development as our main goal is to secure grid compliance of Vestas power plants. We are a global organization in close interaction with the market and involved in innovation and technology activities with our external partners.
The core products within Power System Integration include the electrical infrastructure design of Vestas power plants; the development of Vestas power plant controllers; electrical simulation models; design of advanced products and solutions for grid integration of Vestas plants. We build on the department’s core competencies within Power System, Controls, and Software Engineering.
Power Plant Integration and Analysis is a team within Power System Integration that is committed to product design and plant solutions to support Vestas’ grid compliance, leveraging on our grid analysis capabilities to tackle emerging grid phenomena and other grid integration challenges. We aim to deliver differentiated value-added grid integration plant products and solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- BSc, MSc, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or similar
- Good knowledge of electrical plant integration into the grid and understanding computational methods and steady-state, RMS, and EMT-type models of all major electrical power system components and their control equipment comprising not only inverter-based generation but also synchronous generators, HVDC technologies, protection systems, etc.
- Knowledge of power system simulation tools like PSCAD, PSS/E, DigSilent PowerFactory
- Good level of English
- Preferably you:
- Have a bulk power system understanding and can relate to the challenges of operating a renewable-based power system
- Understand complex power system phenomena constraining the operation of modern power systems (e.g. harmonics, weak grids, sub-synchronous resonances)
- Have controller knowledge and ability to tune controllers for a variety of power system applications
- Are familiar with managing large power system dynamic models, conducting contingency and short-circuit analysis, and with performing protection coordination studies
- Programming and scripting skills will be beneficial (Python, Fortran, DPL, C)
Responsibilities:
As a Power System Engineer in Power Plant Integration and Analysis you will be part of a global team that deals with a variety of modern power system phenomena and grid integration solutions. You will be engaged to support Vestas in maintaining its position as an industry leader in grid integration. Your main responsibilities and tasks will include:
- Enhance advanced power plant solutions (e.g. grid forming; weak grid; HVDC connected) to enhance Vestas’ grid support capabilities in the face of emerging grid challenges
- Conduct a variety of power system simulation analyses, from steady-state to dynamic simulations, to optimize the electrical performance and costs of Vestas’ products
- Improve power plant design and optimize the electrical performance regarding grid integration capabilities
- Participate in cross-functional teams, involving several engineering disciplines, developing power systems’ control functionalities in electricity networks with high penetration levels of renewables
- Engage globally with Vestas’ key external stakeholders, such as customers or transmission system operators, to develop value-added grid integration solutions that meet their needs
