As a Power Systems Engineer with our client, candidates will play a critical role in the planning, design, operation, and optimization of the electricity transmission and distribution networks. They will apply their expertise in power systems analysis, modeling, and simulation to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of electricity to homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; postgraduate qualifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in power systems engineering, preferably in the electricity transmission or distribution sector.
  • Strong technical knowledge of power system analysis, modeling, and simulation techniques, including proficiency in software tools such as PSS/E, ETAP, and PowerFactory.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex technical problems, develop innovative solutions, and communicate findings to diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with network planning, asset management, reliability analysis, and regulatory compliance in the energy industry.
  • Professional engineering certification (e.g., CPEng) and membership in relevant industry associations (e.g., IEEE, CIGRE) is desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct power systems studies, including load flow, short circuit, voltage stability, and transient stability analysis, to assess network performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain computer models of the transmission and distribution networks using industry-standard software tools, such as PSS/E, ETAP, and PowerFactory.
  • Analyse network data and performance metrics to identify trends, anomalies, and areas of concern, and propose corrective actions or system enhancements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to develop long-term network plans, investment strategies, and technical standards.
  • Evaluate new technologies, equipment, and control strategies for their potential impact on network performance, reliability, and resilience.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to operational teams during network emergencies, system disturbances, and major events.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of network automation and control systems to enhance network visibility, flexibility, and responsiveness.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed network upgrades, expansions, and reinforcement projects.
  • Support the integration of renewable energy resources, energy storage systems, and electric vehicles into the grid, including assessing their impact on network stability and security.
  • Liaise with customers, developers, and industry partners to facilitate the connection of new generation and demand-side resources to the grid.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and regulatory submissions to communicate findings, recommendations, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Stay abreast of industry developments, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements to inform decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
