Lake District story tellers required
Ready for a communications role in a world-class landscape like no other? We’re searching for a strong communicator to create compelling stories, inspire action and engage with people who visit, work or live in the Lake District National Park.
About us
We’re a friendly, flexible Communications and Engagement team working in an innovative, forward-thinking organisation to look after this unique corner of England. Our staff include rangers and field workers, advisers at our visitor centres, planners and more.
About the role
The role is based in the Communications and Engagement service and offers plenty of opportunities to use your creativity through a range of media, digital content and campaign activities.
You’re confident managing media enquiries, spotting an issue or an opportunity, briefing senior colleagues and devising inspirational messages to help care for this spectacular National Park.

Key tasks for the first 12 months will include:

  • Coordinate and deliver the content plan with the Communications team
  • Act as first point of contact in the press office, managing a wide range of enquiries
  • Seek out stories, in particular nature recovery, a net zero National Park and sustainable visiting
  • Create content for our new website (2024/25).

About you
Could you be our next PR and Digital Media Officer? You might be currently working in a communications, marketing or engagement role - or perhaps you have something completely fresh to offer. We’re looking for self-starters with an eye for detail, and plenty of ideas and energy. You’ll be keen for a challenge and ready to make a difference in England’s largest National Park and World Heritage Site.
Benefits

Working with us, you’ll enjoy:

  • Generous Pension Scheme
  • Electric car and Cycle to Work schemes
  • Paid time off so you can volunteer
  • Subsidised healthcare scheme

Happy to talk flexible working.
The role will be based at our Head Office at Wayfaring House in Kendal at least two days per week. We’re set up for hybrid working and can accommodate some working from home and from other locations across the National Park. You’ll be provided with a laptop to enable you to access our secure IT network when working remotely. We’re also happy to talk flexible patterns of work.
