Lafarge has an opportunity for a Preventative Maintenance Head at our Cement Plant located in Exshaw Alberta.
The mission of the Preventive Maintenance Head is to contribute to reach long term reliability of the equipment and installations in the plant by implementing the appropriate preventive maintenance / condition monitoring / predictive strategies and actions at the lowest optimum cost and in compliance with the Health & Safety regulations. In addition, the incumbent will proactively identify problem areas, lead investigation of the causes of downtime and promote elimination of reliability issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. In the absence of this, a Technologist Diploma with significant experience in the industry would be required. Professional Engineer (P.Eng) preferred.
  • Flexibility with working hours and ability to manage stress, to provide assistance and to encourage the maintenance team in critical situations.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with lubrication, vibrational analysis, and hydrolics is required
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience at a minimum
  • Must be proficient with SAP.
  • Knowledge and experience with Root Cause Analysis
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial safety standards.

Responsibilities:

Operational:

  • Define and implement the equipment’s preventive and predictive maintenance strategies and as result determine the corrective maintenance actions to assure long term and reliable functioning of equipment and installations.
  • Setup and continuously improves the preventive maintenance plans in cooperation with Production Manager, Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance Heads/Coordinator and Capex department.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance work orders and ensure that inspections are effectively conducted to account for findings and executed according to plan.
  • Record equipment history and trend results of condition monitoring tasks to identify needs of maintenance actions well in advance to reduce risk of unplanned downtime.
  • Assess equipment condition and defines the replacement strategy considering reliability and cost expectations.
  • Supports equipment troubleshooting and identify design modifications as required to reduce maintenance costs, improve reliability and maintainability.
  • Leads and participate in RCAs for accident/near miss events and reliability related investigations. Deliver technical assistance to the department as required.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager in the elaboration and control of the maintenance budget, ensuring planning and follow-up of costs. Lead planning for all foreseeable operations (weekly, master, shutdown).
  • Prepares cost estimates and provide project management for corrective actions and maintenance improvement initiatives.
  • Supervising contractor’s activities in all areas of plant maintenance as required.
  • Remains abreast of predictive technologies, identify potential applications, conducting evaluation, recommending implementation strategies when warranted.
  • Ensure that a specific inspection and lubrication plan covering all plant equipment is in place and reviewed regularly.
  • Contribute to NWC optimization by identifying critical parts (based on risk assessment and implementation of preventive maintenance routines on critical equipment) and establishing optimal stock levels of spare parts (through FMEA). Define equipment and component replacement strategy based on systematic risk evaluation.
  • Communicate and implement regulations, company goals, local permits, policies and procedures; optimize the internal processes and structures. Supervise personnel to apply them consistently and ensure ISO compliance. Respect MAC standard; follow up weekly MAC targets (KPIs).

Personnel:

  • Manage and motivate its team to attain expected performance, ethics and safe behaviours.
  • Ensuring competencies and skills development according to technical innovations, plant or personal needs. Train and coach the maintenance team on preventive maintenance and maintenance best practices.
  • Provide on-the-spot guidance and formal training as required.
  • Provides input to the training requirements of PPM personnel.
  • Ensure that the PTA process for the team is in place (including succession and retention plans) and follow up implementation of related actions (including mitigation actions to avoid losing people.)
  • Ensure that annual and midyear performance interviews are done for all my subordinates and IDPs and that training plans are in place.
  • Handle complaints in a professional and proactive manner.

Administrative:

  • Concerning to his activities and authority ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, license requirements and applicable laws (E.g.: opacity incident reporting, water effluent sampling. CKD handling and waste disposal.)
  • Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and standards (ASTM, CSA, MDQ, Internal targets and limits.)
  • Assist in the management of lubricants inventory and maintenance spare parts, through detailed analysis of spare part needs, makes recommendations for stock parameters to procurement.
  • Assist in preparation of the mechanical maintenance budget, compile and analyze the long-term maintenance needs for the plant.
  • Documents maintenance performance indicators, analyzes trends, develops and implements improvement strategies.
  • Provide the Maintenance team up to date with the main results of inspections, equipment condition trends, and developing risks.
  • Assist Maintenance Manager in setting departmental objectives.
  • Assist in development, execution and control of departmental annual budget.

Safety Leadership:

  • Displays safety leadership by ensuring safe practices by co-workers, employees and contractors in all areas of his responsibility and managing accountability.
  • Compliance of all safety policies, procedures and applicable laws.
  • Report on accidents/incidents assuring follow-up as per the Exshaw procedures.
