JOB SUMMARY:

Raytheon’s Apertures and RF Department is seeking a Principal Antenna Design Engineer to join the Radome & Apertures team in McKinney, Texas. The department is responsible for full-scope antenna product solutions, spanning architecture trades, design, development, integration, deployment, and sustainment of antenna systems and associated integrated system verification solutions.
The candidate will support state-of-the-art ultra-wideband phased array antennas, individual antennas, and Low Observable (LO) antennas within the Company. The selected candidate will work with diverse teams of engineers and scientists with backgrounds in Active Electronically Scanned Arrays (AESAs), Computational Electromagnetics Modeling, RF Test, Mechanical, Structural and Thermal analysis, Material Science, Process and Manufacturing Engineering and LO technology.
The ideal candidate for this role will enjoy both theoretical design and hands-on engineering tasks. Candidate is an inquisitive problem solver, self-driven, and determined with a positive attitude, has a broad range of antenna design skills, and would enjoy diving deeper into Low Observable antenna research and development. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior Engineering experience.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of Engineering experience with any combination of the following:
  • Design, fabrication, and test of conformal antennas, apertures, and passive RF components (radiating elements, radomes, power dividers, couplers, transitions, multi-layer board designs, Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSSs), etc.).
  • Experience designing, fabricating, and testing ultra-wideband phased array antennas such as Tightly Couple Dipole Arrays (TCDA), Vivaldi, Sliced Notch, Planar Ultra-wideband Modular Arrays (PUMA).
  • EM modeling & simulation tools: HFSS, CST, FEKO or SENTRi
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Electromagnetics.
  • Full competency in core RF engineering and antenna theory and skills and general knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • RCS data processing tools: Knowbell, Pioneer, or Saber
  • Experience presenting technical data in design reviews and technical interchange meetings.
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written. Assist with the preparation and delivery of presentations.
  • Implement various design techniques (materials, shaping, etc.) for RCS mitigation where necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO ANTICIPATE:

  • Be responsible for the hands-on design and realization of individual antennas, phased array antennas and passive RF components.
  • Use computational electromagnetic analysis software to design and predict performance on various types of antennas and apertures (spiral, sinuous, Vivaldi, patch, slot, horn, ultra-wideband tightly coupled dipole arrays, etc.)
  • Exhibit exceptionally high level of innovation, creativity, and initiative.
  • Support customer programs through modeling and simulation of antennas or RF components/systems and leading teams that perform these functions.
  • Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems involving antenna/sensor-based applications such as radar, electronic warfare, electronic attack, electronic support measures, communications, geolocation, direction finding, etc.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Represent the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
  • Mentor and guide more junior engineers and technicians in the design, build, and test phases of projects and programs.
  • Work with interdisciplinary engineering teams including thermal, structural, mechanical, systems, etc.
  • Analyze simulation or test data to verify performance to requirements.
  • Participate in and guide the testing of RF hardware for required performance metrics: VSWR, insertion loss, gain, polarization, radar cross section (RCS), etc.
