This position can be based out of Philadelphia (our HQ), NYC area, or Remote. We follow a hybrid work model.

OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Principal Backend Engineer to help re-architect our Backend Platform to scale for the next 4 years of growth, especially the payment processing aspects of it. We use some of the latest tools and technologies for payment processing. Our services are hosted on AWS.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Deep understanding of how to build a sustainable backend platform at a large scale engineering organization
  • 10+ years of Software Development experience with at least 5+ years in a cloud environment (AWS/GCP). Expert in at least two programming languages.
  • Experience in influencing organizations on technical direction/best practices
  • Passion for developing scalable, well-designed software that improves developer’s lives while also seamlessly supporting scale and reliability
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams such as design, product, business & data teams to deliver great experiences.
  • Strong focus on user experience, usability, scalability, reliability, and quality. You are an undying advocate for the user, and you have a deep intuition for how people & machines interact with software at scale.
  • High empathy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to find compromise working across the entire engineering org.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit. You are self-directed and innovative, you build trust and are biased towards action in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, owning team processes, and leading cross-functional projects is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect, build, and maintain a generalized payment infrastructure at scale. Ensure the infrastructure can adapt to the evolving needs of Credit Genie products.
  • Own the design & evolution of our backend systems and build for the next 4 years of continued scale and growth of Credit Genie
  • Identify gaps in our current designs and lead redesigns of our backend systems to improve throughput, latency, and developer velocity.
  • Help architect the core backend services to have four 9s (99.99%) availability and low latency.
  • Set and define standards that improve developer workflows, code quality, and product quality.
  • Mentor the engineers to further their professional development.
  • Leverage Gen AI to improve Developer productivity, code quality, and product quality
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance team environment.
  • Work with stakeholders from product, marketing, etc. on initiatives aligning with our KPIs and business priorities
