Major Position Responsibilities:

  • Works with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to design, prototype, and test mixed-signal circuits and subsystems for aerospace and defense applications. This includes developing system level electrical architecture, defining requirements and verification methods, and overseeing the design of Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs) for guidance, navigation, and control related subsystems.
  • Serves as a technical lead on large and small research and development projects.
  • Supports business development and works directly with customers and suppliers for development and integration activities.
  • Recommends electrical engineering tools, defines processes, and leads continuous improvement activities.
  • Capture and manage requirements for electronic systems, including interface definition, power budget, volume claim, mission profile, environmental conditions, EMC, and regulatory requirements.
  • Plan and implement integration, validation, and verification programs to ensure that electronic designs address all requirements and use cases. Includes development and execution of hardware and software test procedures for prototypes, Design Verification Tests (DVT), and acceptance tests.
  • Research and analyze data, such as vendor products, COTS components, Government/Customer Furnished Equipment, specifications, and manuals to support integration into a design or application.
  • Design mixed-signal circuits including embedded processing systems, power supplies, analog and digital filters, high-speed serial interfaces, telemetry systems, and data logging circuits.
  • Perform schematic capture and layout of CCAs.
  • Document design including design intent, interface specifications, schematics, functional block diagrams, calculations, and analysis, BOMs, and manufacturing data (Gerber files, ODB++ files, hex files for firmware, etc.)
  • Lead and participate in Peer Reviews.
  • Write, test, and debug firmware for embedded system prototypes as required.
  • Develop test plans for CCA and firmware, including built in self-test (BIST), boundary scan testing, and/or dedicated board-level testers.
  • Design and document automated or manual CCA testers (typically deployed to CCA vendor).
  • Assist in the establishment of milestones and schedules for major engineering projects.
  • Perform technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and effectiveness analyses for subsystem and system elements.
  • Provide leadership and/or direction to lower-level employees and leads technical tasks for small teams or projects.
  • Participate as a technical lead with Guidance, Navigation, and Control system subcontractors.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement activities to advance performance of the Systems Engineering group.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve system design weaknesses.
  • Participate in Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM) reviews to validate manufacturability and cost model of Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs).
  • Lead formal root cause analysis efforts for electronic subsystems.
  • Plan and support generation of technical documents and presentation materials.
  • Present technical briefings to internal and external customers.
  • Support business development by providing engineering support for proposals.

Basic Qualifications:
Required Education: / Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree OR Vocational/Technical Training Degree
Discipline/Major: Electrical Engineering

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Experience with
  • Working with Electrical, Systems, Software, Mechanical, Reliability, Safety, Cybersecurity, and Test & Integration engineers to define system and subsystem product solutions.
  • Mixed-signal designs including analog filters, control loops, digital filters (IIR and FIR), high-speed interface design, telemetry interfaces and various op-amp circuits.
  • Using FPGAs and CPLDs in mixed signal systems.
  • CCA layout design rules, fabrication options, and design standards. Experience designing CCAs for high shock (>1000G) environments is a plus.
  • Strong embedded systems skills including experience writing firmware, board support code, bootloaders; experience debugging code (ASM, C, C++, or C#) for embedded systems.
  • Familiar with data acquisition and characteristics of sensors such as accelerometers, MEMS gyros, magnetometers, GPS modules, and thermal sensors.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools such as SPICE and Ansys SIwave. Experience with MATLAB and Simulink a plus.
  • Ability to create and document automated test systems for CCAs (typically deployed to CCA vendors). Experience with LabVIEW a plus.
  • Proficiency with a wide variety of electronic test equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, DMM, frequency counter/generator, etc.)
  • Proficiency in requirements management and verification using tools such as DOORS.
  • Strong team collaboration and leadership. Capability to lead a technical team, provide direction to subcontractors, and collaborate with management.
  • Clear understanding of basic project management principles.
  • Effective presentation and communication skills in the English language.
  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Strong technical writing skill and disciplined approach to documentation and presentations.

    Pay Range (USD): $107,065 - $198,835 Benefits: Employees are eligible for medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, and basic life insurance as well as pre-tax spending accounts.
