SKILLS

• Extensive experience across diverse software stacks and platform architectures, with a proven track record of providing technological leadership and guidance
• A decade of solid hands-on experience with creating, testing, and operating multi-stack architectures governed by cloud solutions. Ideally, in highly complex environments
• Independent problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide support and direction to the engineering team
• Strong communication skills and ability to translate strategic goals into technical discussions and provide technical perspective in strategic discussions
• A good understanding of DevOps/SRE best practices to guide developers and abstract application development from underlying hosting platforms and infrastructure
• A proactive approach to improve processes and systems
• A history of sharing knowledge (e.g contributions to open-source projects, past failures, and learnings), is highly regarded
• Bias to action and ability to foster a culture of pragmatic delivery alongside technical excellence
• Experience in GoLang, ideally combined with Ruby/RoR experience is considered a plus, understanding Frontend Architecture even more so
• Leadership experience is a plus, even if this role does not come with managing responsibilities

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Principal Engineer to drive best-in-class architecture design decisions and ensure a continuous improvement of our distributed architecture across all product development teams. You report directly to the CTPO, and work closely with Engineering Leadership, and regularly engage with our Staff Engineers. In this role, you will guide the architectural approaches of the product development in teams, and thus will bring experience from different platform architectures in multiple organizations into the discussions and decision-making process.

You will be a maker, not a manager, but it will come with leadership duties. As Principal Engineer, you will make the whole team better by advocating for best practices, creating awareness for established processes, and helping teams to understand the right way forward, technically. You will speak to technical aspects of the product, connect planned work to business strategy and to what makes the company more successful, and maybe most importantly utilize interpersonal skills to influence others around you towards common goals.

• Guide the development of the platform architecture and make corrections as necessary
• Act as a technical role model and lead efforts to innovate and improve distributed software systems
• Work with engineering leadership to support the Chief Technology Product Officer in the development and execution of the technical strategy and take ownership of specific areas within the strategy
• Lead key project discussions that focus on the long-term strategic goals of the organization
• Work with Staff and Senior Engineers in teams and provide early guidance on project complexity, feasibility, effort, and architectural approaches
• Develop and review architectural designs that adhere to established principles, and discuss these designs with engineering, product, and data teams
• Mentor others by participating in technical decision-making processes that promote scalability and an understanding of the impact of decisions on the business
• Encourage collaboration between teams to discuss technical synergies and integration efforts
• Conduct proof of concept work to identify and mitigate potential risks in future projects, ensuring that all team members have the opportunity to contribute
• Conduct technical interviews to recruit engineering staff and improve overall team performance
