Responsibilities:

WHAT’S THE ROLE?

It is imperative for safe operations at Gatwick Airport that the engineering infrastructure is optimally designed, constructed, operated and maintained.
The Principal Engineer has the Authority for all systems falling under their engineering discipline for the whole of Gatwick Airport and will provide professional competence, technical expertise and leadership on all discipline Engineering matters.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to all GAL departments in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of engineering systems and infrastructure.
  • Own the relevant technical and engineering policies & standards, reference specifications and reference drawings.
  • Ensure delivery of the technical briefing process, translating client needs into appropriate technical design requirements.
  • Sign-off all discipline designs via the design review and Design Council process.
  • Operate as the Responsible Engineer for any activities regarding Engineering systems and Permits to Work.
  • Balance the need to design fit for purpose infrastructure assets whilst maximising the best whole life cycle benefits.
  • Complete contract tender evaluations and supplier ‘due diligence’ as required to support Procurement workstreams.
  • Conduct accident/incident investigations and act as expert witness and independent competent person as required.
