About Our Client: Our client is a leading organization responsible for environmental public health and protection in Victoria. We are seeking a talented Principal Health Scientist to lead and manage a team focused on supporting the organization in meeting its statutory responsibilities related to environmental public health.
Role Overview: The Principal Health Scientist – Health Impact Assessment will lead a team responsible for building an evidence-based understanding of environmental public health risk. This role involves integrating multidisciplinary approaches and systems thinking to address drivers for environmental health impacts, contributing to strategic priorities for environmental public health, and enabling the organization to integrate public health considerations across its core regulatory and enabling services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively support our client with public health advice in relation to pollution and waste, ensuring growth of expertise in environmental public health advice and practice.
- Lead the organization’s multidisciplinary technical practice area of health impact assessment to support the integration of public health into strategic advice and regulatory decision-making.
- Develop knowledge of current international guidance, standards, and processes, as well as emerging issues in environmental public health.
- Establish and implement our client’s scientific program to support health impact assessment and apply these assessments in developing the organization’s strategic priorities within its regulatory decision-making functions.
- Lead the development, implementation, and enhancement of an environmental health tracking network to provide transparent, up-to-date information about environmental hazards/indicators.
- Develop and implement health assessment frameworks and guidance to support our client in fulfilling its role as an environmental regulator, including strategic, sectoral, and project impact assessments.
- Conduct or support rapid and systematic reviews to enable policy development. Prepare timely and high-quality advice, technical reports, and briefs on highly complex issues in relation to current and future environmental health challenges.
Requirements:
- Background in public health, health/social impact assessment, or applied epidemiology related to environmental pollution and waste.
- Experience in providing strategic advice and leading teams through change.
- Knowledge of international guidance, standards, and emerging issues in environmental public health.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Commitment to fostering genuine partnerships across government, industry, and community levels.
