Description:

The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer as a key role in our Global Engineering Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of mechanical systems, ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
In this position, you will work alongside the rest of the Development Engineering team to progress global development projects. You will be a key member of cross-functional project teams, taking a role as a technical lead. The role will entail design, development, testing, and report writing. You must be able to present in the office at least 3-4 times weekly, with the occasional possibility for remote work.
The role will also see you partnering with key vendors and working alongside their engineering resources to ensure our requirements are fully met on time and within budget. You will have a good knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques with a specific focus on medium-volume injection molded parts. You will also have project management skills that will allow you to manage multiple projects at once.
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you should be the go-to technical person for the Development Engineering team as well as other colleagues and be able to support with troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Supports the project prioritization process with estimates of resource requirements.
  • Takes a structured approach to projects, planning activities to anticipate potential issues and take necessary steps to minimize project disruption.
  • Acts as a mentor to support more junior members of the team with prioritization and keeping their projects on track.

Technical Depth/Skills:

  • Technical lead on R&D projects when needed with technical expertise in Dosing, Dilution and Dispensing Equipment
  • Determine viable solutions to technical problems including the design of new solutions.
  • Operate as a senior member of the engineering team completing and maintaining drawings and associated document packages to a high level.
  • Maintain technical expertise to provide relevant coaching to the team
  • Provide advice to R&D management on technical issues and recommend a path forward
  • Maintain a good level of application knowledge of the Diversey Global Dosing, Dilution and Dispensing product portfolio
  • Ability to communicate technical issues to diverse audiences in a clear and concise manner
  • Liaises with suppliers in conjunction with the Quality function to ensure resolution to issues
  • Ensures issues and resolutions are documented and communicated to take learnings into future developments
  • Works with supply partners and suppliers to deliver on project commitments
  • Talk to peers across the globe for alignment in the R&D organization

Quality Management System:

  • Provide support and guidance for the team to operate within the QMS and input to the development and maintenance of the system for the benefit of the broader group.
  • Drive the documentation management process and support others in adhering to that process.
  • Work with vendors to align documentation processes and drive consistent and complete document packages.
  • Provide input into and work to maintain the quality of processes and tools such as the PLM system

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering or a related field (Master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience)
  • Has a detailed understanding of injection molding processes
  • Understands hydrodynamics, pumps, and motors
  • Has 2 – 5 years of experience working within a design team in a similar subject area (dispensing system, pump design)
  • Good knowledge of engineering standards, document revision, and control
  • Good understanding of project management
  • Understanding of product life cycle management
  • Familiar with Design for Lean Six Sigma tools, such as FMEA’s, Design of Experiment
  • Able to prioritize work on multiple projects to meet deadlines for self and others
  • Pro-active and constructive communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a large multinational company
  • Worked within the bounds of an ISO-quality-registered company
  • Understanding and some experience working with CFD and FEA
  • Able to provide guidance and mentorship to colleagues
  • Fluent in English
  • Good CAD skills, preferably 3D SolidWorks
  • Willing to travel in Europe and outside Europe if needed
