We are currently seeking a Principal Naval Architect to join our defence team in our Adelaide office. In this role, you will lead and manage the design, development, and assessment of naval architecture projects. This position demands a profound knowledge of marine engineering principles, creative design skills, and the leadership to guide a team of engineers and designers. The Principal Naval Architect will collaborate closely with clients, regulatory authorities, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure all projects adhere to the highest standards of safety, performance, and efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in naval architecture, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Expertise in ship design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, Maxsurf).
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management: Lead and manage a team of naval architects, marine engineers, and designers. Provide technical guidance and mentorship.
  • Design and Development: Oversee the conceptual and detailed design of vessels, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements. Utilise advanced design software and develop innovative solutions to optimise vessel performance.
  • Project Oversight: Manage multiple projects from initial design through final delivery, ensuring adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with clients to understand their needs and translate them into technical specifications. Maintain strong relationships with regulatory bodies and other stakeholders.
  • Research and Development: Stay updated with the latest advancements in naval architecture and marine engineering. Lead or contribute to R&D projects to enhance vessel efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure all designs comply with relevant national and international standards and regulations. Conduct regular reviews and audits to maintain high standards of quality and safety.
