ABOUT US:

Police, Racing, Victims and Coordination (PRVC) group is responsible for leading key policy reform and programs across the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). It enhances community safety and wellbeing through public policy, governance, legislative advice, reform and grants, bringing together all policy and reform functions aligned to the Police, Crime Prevention, Victims and Racing portfolios.

Responsibilities:

As the Principal Policy Officer, you will assist the Manager and Senior Manager of the Crime Prevention and Policy Reform team to lead and deliver priority reforms for the department and government with a focus on crime prevention. You will be required to work in a flexible manner, across a breadth of policy and reform work, providing a high level of strategic policy work to ensure sound outcomes for the Victorian community.
Where required, you will lead priority-specific teams to deliver on critical reform priorities.
As a senior member in the team, you will have an important role in actively contributing to a dynamic, productive and positive workplace culture as well as mentoring and building the capability of team members.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Providing authoritative, strategic policy advice to Ministers and departmental executive, as it relates to a range of justice portfolios.
  • Leading the development and implementation of highly complex and sensitive policy and reform outcomes, including leading research, consultation and engagement activities.
  • Providing leadership and guidance through coaching and mentoring of staff.
