JOB SUMMARY:

CERENOVUS a Johnson & Johnson company is recruiting for a Principal Polymer Chemist in Galway, Ireland.
The Principal Polymer Chemist will be part of the Cerenovus R&D team in Galway, Ireland; an exciting group of engineers and scientists dedicated to understanding unmet needs in neurovascular diseases (such as stroke) and developing innovative device solutions to improve their treatment.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND THE IMPACT YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Identifying suitable polymers for various applications in the company’s device development portfolio.
  • Recommending and establishing suppliers of polymers with properties based on their function in final medical device design as well as its role in the treatment of the disease, whether that be as an implant or as a functional polymer on non-implant interventional devices.
  • Provide technical leadership and take ownership of critical technical tasks in the execution of product development projects.
  • Design new products, optimise product performance and refine product design to meet technical specifications.
  • Identify and manage key technical product development project risks and appropriate mitigations.
  • Develop test capability to evaluate product performance and safety requirements.
  • Identify and select product materials and assembly methods.
  • Build and test prototypes, analyse test data and interpret to identify optimal solution(s).
  • Identify and support development of processes for new products.
  • Write and/or review procedures, protocols, specifications, and reports.
  • Liaise with key opinion leaders to develop a deep understanding of the disease state, gather user needs; and articulate throughout the team.
  • Translate needs requirements into technical specifications.
  • Leverage and liaise with external resources to support achieving project goals.
  • Evaluate and assess physician (user) techniques and develop product training materials.
  • Attend external meetings with key opinion leaders to present the Cerenovus product portfolio and gain feedback on new product development.
  • Foster a culture of creativity; generate creative product solutions to address unmet needs.
  • Support generation of Intellectual Property by filing new ideas and drafting patents as required.
  • Manage technical project resources as required, including responsibility for goal setting, performance reviews, identify and support development needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
  • Coach or mentor more junior team members on planning, execution, analysis and reporting as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed/assigned by the manager.
