Description:

The African Union Development Agency invites applicants who are citizens of African Union Member States for the post of Principal Programme Officer - African Union Smart Safety Surveillance (AU3S).
Under the supervision of the Director HCID, the Principal Programme Officer, African Union Smart Safety Surveillance will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of activities for the AUDA-NEPAD Flagship Programme, AU Smart Safety Surveillance under the workstreams on policy, technology, and resource & capability. The incumbent will ensure effective collaboration with Member States, Grantee frontline project staff, technical experts, and consultants to facilitate the successful implementation of a smart safety surveillance system in Africa.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Experience working in the regulatory sector on product safety monitoring and quality management system (or related) roles
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts, and approaches relevant to the safety monitoring of health products.
  • Experience in policy development and implementation of public health programmes.
  • Experience in policy advocacy, consultations, dialogue, and harmonization at national, regional, and/or continental levels.
  • Strong written and oral communication, research, and review skills.
  • Creative and strategic thinking, team building, conflict resolution, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership, planning, and organizational skills to achieve organizational goals.
  • Supports subordinates, provides oversight, and takes responsibility for delegated assignments.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, be proactive, take initiative, and with sound judgment.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure with a wide range of individuals and institutions.
  • Integrity and ability to always maintain confidentiality at the highest level.
  • Excellent managerial skills, team management, and stakeholder management.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-national environment.
  • Proficiency in one of the AU official working languages (French, English, Portuguese, Arabic).
    Education and Experience:
    Master’s degree in Microbiology, Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Public Health, Management, Business Administration, Food Science and Technology or related fields with eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional experience in product safety monitoring and quality management system, out of which three (3) years should be at supervisory level within public sector institutions or similar organizations nationally, regionally, and/or continentally.
    A project/programme management certification (such as PMP, PRINCE2, or MSP) Is required.
    Or
    Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Public Health, Management, Business Administration, Food Science and Technology or related field plus twelve (12)
    years of experience in product safety monitoring and quality management systems, out of which seven (7) years should be at a specialist/expert level within public sector institutions
    or similar organizations nationally, regionally, and/or continentally.
    A project/programme management certification (such as PMP, PRINCE2, or MSP) is required.
    Remuneration: Indicative basic salary of US$48,131.20 per annum plus other entitlements e.g., Post Adjustment (57% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($24,561.84 per annum), gratuity (15% of gross salary) in conformity with the rules and procedures applicable to internationally recruited staff of the African Union.
