Description:

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Experience and knowledge in reliability engineering, including processes and procedures.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Effective oral/written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and team skills.
  • Experience preparing and presenting technical information to peers, to all levels of internal management, and to external customers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience working and bidding military avionics programs.

Responsibilities:

Collins is seeking an experienced Principal Reliability Engineer to join our Avionics Business Unit Reliability Engineering team. Our work supports the development of innovative aviation electronic solutions for one of the world’s leading Aerospace companies. We are in a new era within Aerospace Reliability Engineering, as new technologies require a new approach to addressing long term reliability. This position will afford the opportunity to develop assessment methodologies and pursue research toward fulfilling this need.
This is a Hybrid, or Onsite, position based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Relocation assistance may be available.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The individual will be a member of our Reliability Engineering Team, which supports Air Transport, Business, Regional and Military aircraft products and programs.
  • Provide Reliability Engineering leadership by mentoring junior engineers, advising product development teams, developing and implementing reliability engineering processes within the Avionics business unit, and participating in companywide reliability initiatives.
  • Performing bid and proposal activities for military and commercial avionics programs.
  • Performing Reliability Assessments, which includes performing reliability predictions to establish MTBF estimates and component failure rates. These analyses utilize the 217Plus methodology and include utilizing field performance of similar equipment when applicable to increase accuracy of the assessment.
  • Performing Derating analysis, Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEAs), High Intensity Radiation Fields (HIRF) and Lightning analysis, Testability analysis and Maintainability Assessments.
  • Performing Accelerated Stress Testing (AST) and developing Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) profiles. These testing efforts include HALT/HASS, and the development of test procedures and reports, overseeing and conducting testing, conducting failure review board meetings, and defining corrective actions.
  • Performing Neutron Single Event Upset susceptibility analyses.
  • Developing and/or researching new reliability engineering analysis and test methods for use with sub-90nm technologies, including multi-core processors, SoPC’s, various memory technologies and FPGAs.
