Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Principal Signal Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia.

About the Position
Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line including 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD that will unlock a bottleneck at the core of the rail network and that will transform the way we travel across the whole of Southeast Queensland.
It will include four new underground stations through the middle of Brisbane, provide a new above-ground station at the RNA Showgrounds, upgrade six stations between Fairfield and Salisbury, deliver three new stations on the Gold Coast and introduce a new world-class signalling system to the wider SEQ rail network.
The purpose of this role is to deliver complete designs for complex signalling project schemes in accordance with industry and company standards and processes, as well as develop procedures to ensure expert knowledge is transferred to others.

Key accountabilities:

  • Ensure the delivery of complex signalling design schemes compliant and to the satisfaction of the Customer (all of signalling).
  • Guarantee training and mentoring on industry standards (e.g. CENELEC, AREMA, IEEE, IPC, etc.) and company standard solutions.
  • Guarantee communicating and defending the signalling technical solution.
  • Ensuring all documents and designs produced are issued and controlled in accordance with company processes and relevant industry standards.
  • Ensuring the effective interfacing with other groups (e.g. RAMS, Telecoms, etc.) by all team members.
  • Ensure assembling and chairing reviews to detect design errors and process and tool inefficiencies and following through on corrective and improvement actions.
  • Ensure the effective coordination of analysis of the feedback from V&V and site tests.

Required skills/knowledge:

  • Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering or Information Technology Qualifications/ University Degree.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in signalling design and delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple key stakeholders displaying highly polished interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Agile mindset, able to take prompt decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work and lead in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong working relationships with technology providers.
