Description:

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineering Manager to join our team. The AeGIS (Artificial Generative Intelligence Security) team is charged with ensuring the safety of all of Microsoft’s generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) systems against the full range of threats that they face – from traditional security risks, to novel security threats like indirect prompt injection, to entirely AI-native threats like the manufacture of NCII (nonconsensual intimate imagery) or CSAM (child sexual abuse material) or the use of AI to run automated scams. It works in close collaboration with partner organizations across the company.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

ADDITIONAL OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience
  • Previous experience in human safety aspects of technology (example: social media or search abuse)
    Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

Responsibilities:

Within AeGIS, the Safety Research and Engineering team is responsible for developing mitigation strategies for novel generative AI threats as they emerge, converting those strategies into production code and getting them into real systems, and developing further software capabilities that support AI safety and security across Microsoft’s full range of offerings.

Responsibilities include:
