THE ROLE

The Enforcement team is responsible for supporting APRA in delivering its Enforcement Approach – namely to prevent and address serious prudential risks and to hold entities and individuals to account.
As a Principal Solicitor – Enforcement, you will support APRA’s Enforcement mandate through working as part of a team on enforcement projects and, where appropriate, leading those projects.

Your work will cover the breadth of APRA’s enforcement activity and will include:

  • Providing high quality, practical legal advice embodying APRA’s risk appetite, including advising on litigation, enforcement and regulatory issues relating to APRA’s functions and powers;
  • Jointly formulating strategy with stakeholders in industry aligned supervision teams across APRA on a range of complex issues that are often novel and untested;
  • Supporting the wider Legal team in engagement with stakeholders;
  • Developing APRA’s enforcement infrastructure; and
  • Conducting investigations into regulated entities.

As a more senior member of the team, you will also be responsible for sharing your knowledge, mentoring more junior colleagues and contributing to the wider Legal team’s workstreams and knowledge management initiatives.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have extensive knowledge of contentious regulatory engagements, litigation, investigations and/or enforcement.
  • Be able to prioritise and manage a complex and diverse workload, and have a flexible and practical approach to problem solving.
  • Be legally qualified, holding a current practising certificate and experience of complex legal problem solving as part of a team.
  • Have a strong track record of senior stakeholder engagement
