Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking highly qualified candidates for the role of Principal Substation Physical Engineer, specializing in high voltage substation design. The position involves leading design efforts and performing a range of technical responsibilities with minimal supervision on multiple projects. The successful candidate will be adept at determining client requirements, coordinating technical efforts within and across disciplines, managing design budgets and schedules, and demonstrating proficiency in these areas.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science from an ABET-accredited university.
- 15+ years of experience in substation physical design.
- Direct experience working with clients and supporting marketing proposals is preferred.
- Experience managing design budgets and schedules is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States for any length of time.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.

Responsibilities:
- Lead detailed physical design for high voltage substations.
- Create single line diagrams and general arrangements.
- Develop detailed elevations and section views.
- Produce assembly and installation details.
- Prepare detailed bills of materials, bid units, and material counts.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines as needed.
- Conduct site visits for data gathering.
- Write material procurement and construction specifications, and evaluate contractor bids.
- Review shop drawings.
- Research equipment and client standards.
- Perform calculations such as equipment and conductor sizing, grounding, and lightning protection.
- Generate engineering fee estimates.
- Provide field support during construction.
- Mentor and teach less experienced engineers and design staff.
- Travel occasionally overnight for client meetings and site visits.
