Description:
The mission of the Hyperscale Network Connectivity (HNC) team is to build and manage the global network for the Microsoft Cloud. We are responsible for managing Fiber, Optical, WAN, Metro and Edge connectivity globally for all Microsoft services. The HNC team also manages the Azure Fiber business – our cutting-edge hollow core fiber (HCF) technology – and is looking for an experienced Principal Technical Program Manager to lead a time to scale this technology, operationalize the technology to enhance Microsoft’s global network. This role provides you with the leadership opportunity to effect change that will have enterprise-wide impacts. As a Principal Technical Program Manager, you will work alongside our Engineering and Product teams to define and establish the strategic direction of Microsoft’s HCF technology and business.
The candidate would have an engineering background, an understanding of fiber optical manufacturing and large-scale operations. Candidates need to have demonstrated written and verbal communication, an understanding for technology, experience providing guidance and direction to technical audiences, ability to drive towards the “big picture” while managing details, and the ability to build relationships with key partners.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree AND substantial experience in fiber manufacturing – OR equivalent experience.
- Considerable experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of TPM’s to drive multiple strategic initiatives to buildout our Azure Fiber business.
- Lead strategic supplier engagements to meet business demands.
- Be the business lead for our manufacturing roadmap.
- You will identify unknown or unmet needs within our manufacturing roadmap. You’ll then clarify strategic directions and define solution options for those areas.
- You will drive business impact across the organization and track success criteria for Azure Fiber’s manufacturing roadmap.
- You’ll also identify long-term investment opportunities and engage partners to garner support for those feature areas.
- You will partner with others to collect performance metrics and form hypotheses for complex technical needs in order to improve our optical network.
