What You Will Be Doing
As a part of the mechanical group, you will be part of developing next generation clean energy solutions, accelerating our progress towards a sustainable energy future. You will play a leading role in the architecture, design, and validation of Generac’s clean energy products, with emphasis on system architecture and innovative thermal solutions.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Staff Thermal Design Engineer your responsibilities will include: Architecting, designing, modeling, & validating thermal solutions in ESS/pwr electronics Building CFD models and instrumented thermal test vehicles to validate models Creating innovative product enabling thermal solutions that balance form and function Optimizing thermal solutions for performance, DFM/DFA, size, acoustics, reliability, cost Providing clear and actionable guidance to engineering teams for detailed design Sizing & selecting components in air, liquid, and 2-phase thermal solutions Interfacing with thermal suppliers for component selection, validation, and integration Partnering with validation & reliability teams to define thermal test parameters Partnering with SW/FW to provide thermal policies for control algorithms Leading thermal analysis efforts within the mechanical engineering organization Mentoring engineers in thermal analysis, testing, and model correlation
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Min 10 yrs of thermal design / analysis / validation exp
Expertise in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
Experience in architecting thermal solutions for complex electro-mechanical systems
Experience modeling air & liquid cooled systems with solar radiation
Experience in sizing and selection of fans, radiators, pumps, heat pipes, heat sinks, etc.
Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition methods for thermal validation
Advanced proficiency with Icepak, Fluent, Flotherm, Star CCM, or other CFD packages
Preferred Qualifications
M.S. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field specializing in thermodynamics
Experience designing thermal solutions for battery energy storage systems
Experience modeling battery pack failure modes including outgassing & propagation
Experience with UL 9540A regulatory requirements and testing
Demonstrated record bringing quality products from development into production
Experience in thermal solutions for automotive or outdoor NEMA/IP rated products
Experience with validation testing, product reliability, and failure analysis
Experience with structural FEA, or other simulation packages
Proficiency with 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred, other accepted)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
