HMP Peterborough is seeking an experienced and visionary Prison Director to lead the establishment.
As the Prison Director, you will ensure a safe and secure custodial environment that meets prisoners needs, promotes dignity, and provides opportunities to reduce re-offending and improve lives. You will provide strategic and operational leadership, communicating Sodexo’s vision through strong staff engagement and value-based leadership. You will also be responsible for meeting the prison’s business and contractual requirements, managing financial performance, and ensuring high-quality services. Additionally, you will engage with external partners and agencies to ensure effective public protection and actively promote Sodexo as the provider of choice.

Main Responsibilities

  • Strategic Direction: Set and maintain the strategic direction of the prison, considering regional and local priorities.
  • Strategy Development: Develop and review prison strategy, including an annual business plan and equality plan to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Performance Management: Deliver agreed performance and contractual targets on time and within budget.
  • Risk Management: Identify, manage, and review operational, financial, reputational, and personnel risks.
  • Staff Engagement: Foster a culture that attracts, engages, motivates, and retains high-quality staff. Ensure effective workforce and succession planning.
  • Financial Oversight: Ensure financial probity and value for money, delivering all services within budget and achieving identified efficiencies.
  • Contract Management: Use the contract change process to identify and resource new work.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain positive relationships with the Controller, external partners, and HMPPS.
  • Audit and Inspection: Manage and engage with audit and inspection processes effectively.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Lead opportunities for collaboration with stakeholders and partners at various levels to promote the prison, Sodexo Government, and the wider Sodexo.
  • Promotion and Media: Lead promotional activities with stakeholders, partners, government, and the media.
  • Team Leadership: Provide direct line management for Senior Management Team members and matrix management for HR and Finance staff.
  • Growth Opportunities: Identify and maximize opportunities for organisational growth to ensure a vibrant and viable future.
