Description:

WE ARE SEEKING A PROCESS ENGINEER FOR OUR PAPER MILLS LOCATED IN SCARBOROUGH. (NEW FOREST)

This role will be reporting to the Manager of Continuous Improvement, the selected candidate will drive improvement of the overall manufacturing processes through analysis and strategic planning in accordance with corporate and plant business goals and strategies. The incumbent will provide technical support to the Operations group through process trouble shooting and optimization initiatives to improve quality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidate must have an engineering degree from a recognized university, preferably in chemical or mechanical engineering.
  • Proven track record of defining continuous improvement methodologies is recommended.
  • Must be action-oriented and always looking for ways to challenge the status quo.
  • identify potential opportunities to improve current process and translate that to defined projects & see to completion.
  • Must have good balance of soft (relationship-building) skills and strong analytical capabilities.
  • 5 years of proven engineering experience with minimum of 3 years in a manufacturing experience
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office suite, particularly Microsoft Excel is required. Experience in simulation tools, advanced statistical tools (Minitab, JMP) analysis (DOE, multivariate statistics)
  • Individuals must have excellent written and oral communication.
  • Experience with project management software like Monday.com is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to uphold confidentiality.
  • Report to his/her leader or designate any contravention of the act, any known hazards, or defects in equipment.
  • Be physically fit to move things.
  • Ability to work overtime to meet the demands of the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Root cause inefficiencies within plant processes using continuous improvement such as DMAIC, Lean Six Sigma, and Kaizen in compliance with regulations and or industry standards.
  • Analyze current production procedures and standards by estimating manufacturing costs, evaluating time standards, and making recommendations for yield improvements.
  • Spend time on the production floor analyzing workflow, space requirements and equipment layout to determine where the process can be streamlined for lower costs and higher productivity.
  • Manage a set of long-term projects relating directly to plant KPIs focused on improving safety, providing exceptional service, maximizing throughput, reducing waste and improving quality.
  • Manage shorter-term assignments alongside the long-term projects in order effectively root-cause and address opportunities as they occur throughout the year.
  • Create a project implementation plan to correct root causes, working with the plants to achieve buy-in and sustainability.
  • Prepare reports, charts and other documentation required for engineering records and projects.
  • Conduct equipment and chemical trials. Collect and analyze data, generate reports summarizing the results of the trials. Calculate overall cost savings.
  • Explore new fields of technology to determine if the existing process can be improved.
  • Develop SOPs and One-Point Lessons to be posted and used on the production floor.
  • Conduct training sessions with production crews on new processes and/or technologies.
  • Work with C.I. team members to standardize changes and ensure consistency in implementation across plants.
  • Attend daily production meetings, weekly team meetings and execute actions assigned.
  • Keep up to date with new emerging technologies and methodologies, attend paper conferences as needed.
  • Travelling between mill sites might be required depending on projects and support needed.
  • Other duties as required.
