What to Expect
Tesla’s Lithium Crystallization Team is looking for a highly motivated, experienced Process Engineer to join our dynamic team building novel processing facilities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and/or specifying commercial processes and equipment for the production of battery grade crystallized lithium products. The position includes collaboration with R&D, Procurement, Project engineering, Construction and Operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with clients, project managers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and objectives
  • Perform heat and material balance calculations
  • Develop process models
  • Perform equipment size calculations
  • Develop PFDs, stream tables, basic P&ID’s with major control loops
  • Specify materials of construction
  • Create detailed specifications, data sheets and other required documentation for process equipment including evaporators, crystallizers, reactors, clarifiers, thickeners, pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, agitators, filters, centrifuges, dryers, conveyors
  • Review equipment quotations and proposals
  • Work closely with R&D teams to obtain required process data for equipment design
  • Conduct technical reviews and evaluations of equipment designs to identify areas for improvement and optimization and provide technical support and guidance throughout the installation and commissioning process

What You’ll Bring

  • Self-motivated and inclusive team player with an inclusive nature and natural curiously
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, 5 to 10 years industrial experience, or equivalent
  • Experience performing heat and material balance calculations using Excel, SysCAD or other process simulator software packages
  • Experience commissioning or operating commercial processing systems that involve evaporation and crystallization operations
  • Familiarity with equipment components of crystallization processes, such as centrifuges, heat exchangers, MVR vapor compressors, entrainment separators, agitators, filters and dryers
  • Proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards, such as ASME, API, and ANSI
  • Willingness to travel (~25%)
