  • Conduct process studies and audits to maintain performance and identify potential areas of improvement.
  • Works with the Plant Team to resolve mid and long term deficiencies, while providing technical evidence to support improvement initiatives. Defines process conditions for modified equipment/installations under supervision of the Plant Manager and Ash-TEK.
  • Conduct regular process audits for the purposes of establishing baselines and identifying improvement areas.
  • Lead and develop process and manufacturing improvement proposals. Develop scope and business cases when needed.
  • Provide technical guidance and advice on all areas of ash manufacturing process engineering, plant operations, design of process equipment, and the application of new technology. Establish, monitor, and maintain standard operation procedures needed to solve typical process and systems problems encountered in the plant.
  • Identify environmental constraints and impact on operating permits associated with modification of process equipment, fuels, and / or raw material(s) changes.
  • Be the primary point of contact for external automation support and develop a sufficient understanding of the back end automations system such that the correct resources can be quickly directed at issues and opportunities.
  • Support daily, weekly, monthly and annual reporting efforts for the facility.
  • Lead the tracking and evaluation of Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) data.
  • Be an active participant in the effort to exceed Market Quality Objectives (MQO’s) established for the facility.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Circuit Control and Evaluation: This includes monitoring equipment performance and the consistency of the product throughout the process. Identify equipment deficiencies and work with other departments to implement corrections. The goal is to increase energy efficiency, improve availability, reduce variability, and to maximize continuous run time. This work is to be done for all circuits (Raw material preparation, drying, product size reduction, carbon reduction unit and shipping).
  • Circuit Optimization: This includes performing trials and recommending changes to control loops and operating parameters. Ideas for improvement are to be tested, their impact verified and measured, and developed into a project scope as required. In addition, contributing to capital projects in the establishment of baseline data for circuits/ equipment that is to be modified, commissioning of projects, and validation of results.
  • Circuit equipment inspection and troubleshooting: This includes walkthroughs of all equipment lines in the raw grind, kilns, and finish grind workshops. Also includes physical inspections (internal and external) of equipment in these areas, such as dryer, VIS, separators, carbon reduction unit, and dust collectors. This will require the ability to walk up and down stairs, climb ladders, and internally inspect equipment that has been crash stopped (thus high temperatures & dusty environment).
  • Audit of specific equipment and production lines to measure performance and identify opportunities for improvement. This includes audit planning, completion of heat and mass balances by sampling and measurement of material, air and gas streams, correlations with critical quality parameters, developing conclusions and recommendations, final report generation, driving implementation of recommendations, and monitoring of results.
