Baton Rouge is currently looking for a Process Engineer to join the team. This position will be responsible for monitoring and improving the efficiency, output and safety of manufacturing processes through observations and measurements of data. Coordinates activities related to process improvements, process upsets and overall reliability efforts. Works toward processes and systems improvements that achieve sustained improvements in quality and productivity. Provides technical guidance to Operations, Maintenance, and Engineers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Communicates clearly and concisely in a variety of communication settings and styles. Effectively tailors the message to the needs of the audience.
  • Establishes goals and objectives which are specific, measurable, achievable and relevant.
  • Lays out work in a well-planned and organized manner.
  • Troubleshooting and repair of complex automated systems.
  • Strong communication, organization and leadership skills to direct team efforts for projects.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a specialized engineering field required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical engineering is preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment or related industry preferred.
  • Prior Electrical and/or Instrumentation experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing to work periods in excess of 8 hours and seven days a week when needed.
  • Must be able to enter and move about in confined spaces and elevated work areas.
  • Willingness to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances.
  • Ability to wear personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel toed boots and hearing protection).
  • Should be able to work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be able to handle working withpetroleum coke products.
  • As needed, lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Self-starter, Ability to work with minimal supervisory guidance, Able to work as part of a team or independently.
  • Willingness to obtain required training as needed.
  • The ability to produce accurate, high quality work in a time-sensitive fast paced environment.
  • The ability to organize, prioritize and own multiple tasks while meeting and/or exceeding deadlines.
  • The ability to motivate, influence and drive good business decisions forward while working with a diverse workforce.
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Must be able to travel as needed.
  • Valid Driver’s license required.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises operators to optimize the process on a daily basis to achieve customer quality requirements and plant economic objectives.
  • Provides operator training on the systems with a goal of improved reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develops working instructions, workmanship standards and process documents, and ensure they are followed
  • Evaluates production data and laboratory test results, analyze production methods and make adjustments to specifications and standards to improve quality, productivity, and reduce costs.
  • Reviews daily production records and reports results to management and accounting.
  • Responsible for full compliance to all federal and state regulations dealing with air and water quality.
  • Works with state and federal regulation agencies on compliance, regulation changes, current and upcoming events.
  • Ensures that the work areas, equipment, and work practices are in compliance with the regulatory codes, statues, and company requirements.
  • Responsible for engineering support of the calcining process to verify the need for improvement or that optimization has been achieved.
  • Responsible for investigating existing equipment’s worthiness, and the investigation of new ideas and equipment.
  • Initiates and administers testing that would optimize the calcining process.
  • Improves ways to monitor the process through Statistical Process Control charting, etc.
  • Tests and documents changes or new equipment as installed, and approves Management of Change (MOC). Provides training regarding new materials and processes.
  • Designs and conducts experiments and trials for continuous process improvement.
  • Works closely with Production, Maintenance, Laboratory and Engineering personnel to help resolve quality concerns, increase productivity, and improve safety.
  • Tracks and identifies material, process, and equipment performance for feedback to design and Process Failure Mode & Effect Analysis through evaluation of productivity and downtime.
  • Function as a lead or participate in incident investigations as needed.
  • Provides support to a variety of electrical, instrumentation and control system operations and challenges of the plant
  • Understand the design and operation of the Plant’s equipment including Mechanical, Electrical and Control components
  • Works with project engineers, corporate specialists, crafts people, contractors, and vendors, turn around coordinators and safety and environmental personnel to solve problems, drive schedule and meet project goals
  • Supports management with special projects and workflow process improvements and other duties as assigned.
