SUMMARY

The Process Engineer Supervisor-Front Shop supports manufacturing assembly operations acting as a link between design engineering and the shop floor technical activities. Lead in the creating and improving manufacturing processes for new or existing company products. Individuals in this position are comfortable working virtually in a CAD, and ERP environment as well as with their hands in a testing or production environment. The Process Engineering Supervisor provides thought leadership, drives interdepartmental collaboration and develops team members through mentoring and coaching. The Process Engineer Supervisor needs to be capable of working independently to accomplish many tasks and often collaborate with Design Engineers and Area Managers alike.

  • Competent with a CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
  • Possesses familiarity with time studies
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to view and solve manufacturing problems before they occur
  • Ability to team with other Process Engineering Team members, Operations, Design Engineers, Quality Engineers and production personnel to meet internal and external needs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

BSME or equivalent is required and an additional (3-5) years of related experience is preferred. Understanding of engineering concepts required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Good verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, symbols, electrical diagrams etc.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing processes during new product development with the use of process tools such as PFMEAs control plans etc and guides the transition into production.

  • Collaborate with Quality Engineering to develop processes complete and accurate during NPD and C.I. department to maintain/improve processes during production phase
  • Develop best practices around current manufacturing capabilities and works to advance company capabilities
  • Create current state flow charts and facilitate the development future state flow charts
  • Develop and maintain PFMEAs, process planning layouts and control plans
  • Calculate or use data from surrogate processes to predict process capability for meeting product engineering specifications
  • Manage prototype process execution, and measure process capability
  • Develop work instructions including inspection for a wide range of manufactured components
  • Provides shop floor support by answering questions and requests, etc.
  • Develop floor plans for material flow paths, WIP requirements/capacities & any other process requirements.
  • Improves workflow within shop through C.I. initiatives including but not limited to Kaizen events, lean activities etc.
  • Calculate or use data from surrogate processes to predict process takt time & balance operations/stations.
  • Use virtual analysis (simulation) to analyze process plans relative to objectives for safety, quality, productivity, cost, & environmental impact.
  • Initiate product engineering concern reports & change requests supported by relevant data
  • Perform root cause analysis, develop interim containment actions & implement permanent corrective actions for non-conforming product
  • This position has an estimated travel requirement of 10-20%.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the daily workflow of engineers and/or technicians as assigned
  • Supports the hiring and training of new associates
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in conjunction with Human Resources, as needed and in accordance with company policy
