Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY:
WSP currently has an opportunity for a Senior Process Water/Wastewater Project Manager in the Process Water/Wastewater Group, with office locations across Ontario. The successful candidate will act as a design resource, project manager, and/or client manager within the Process Water/Wastewater Group, on local and international industrial water and wastewater treatment projects in a variety of sectors including food processing, mining and manufacturing. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in renewable energy (waste-to-energy) projects, as well as groundwater remediation and treatment projects.
The Process Water/Wastewater Group is a small, tight-knit group of industry professionals, with team members ranging from 30 years experience, to less than one. The team provides specialized design services for clients with unique challenges, with project locations across the globe. The team has expertise in traditional physical-chemical, aerobic, and anaerobic wastewater treatment, as well as emerging contaminants and practices, including the treatment of PFAS, and the development of renewable natural gas resources from waste digestion.
Responsibilities:
You will be expected to manage new and existing multi-disciplinary engineering projects, and supervise engineering design. Typical types of projects include industrial sampling programs and data collection, feasibility studies, options evaluations, preliminary design, detailed design, troubleshooting and operations support for both new and existing facilities. Typical clients include light and heavy industrial facilities, mining operations, extractive industries, food processing facilities, automotive manufacturing, and some small municipalities.
You will be expected to take on duties as a project manager, working with Client Account Managers to prepare proposals and time/task matrices, developing and executing scopes of work, managing project financials and deliverables, and overseeing the work of Junior, Intermediate, and Senior EITs and Engineers. You will be expected to manage external resources for the execution of discipline-specific work for which expertise does not exist in the immediate team. This can include resources within WSP, and external resources such as subcontractors. You will be expected to manage subcontracts, health and safety plans, quality management plans, and other key project management documents.
You will be encouraged to take on new responsibilities, engage new clients, and bring forward new ideas for growing or optimizing the business. WSP provides opportunities for active engagement with management and leadership at all levels, as well as support programs for mentorship, leadership development, and mental health management.
Typical project phases and tasks may entail the following:
- Design of industrial wastewater treatment systems; including wastewater characterization, bench and pilot-scale treatability evaluations, PFD and P&ID development, production of detailed engineering drawings and specifications, construction supervision, and commissioning
- Economic and technical evaluation of treatment technologies
- Design, specification, and tendering of major process equipment purchases
- Economic and technical evaluation of specific treatment equipment
- Permitting and regulatory submittals
Typical project management duties may include:
- Managing task execution, and providing guidance to project personnel
- Working with other disciplines and coordinating design tasks
- Managing subcontractors
- Reviewing and managing budgets and project spend
- Maintaining a project schedule
- Communicating with clients and managing expectations
- Managing change
- Developing health and safety documentation
- Reviewing and approving billings
Typical proposal tasks can include:
- Working with Client Account Managers (CAMs) and clients directly to develop scopes of work
- Reading and understanding RFPs
- Developing scope of work and time/task matrices
- Working with other offices and business units to develop project teams
- Visiting project sites to understand project requirements
