We have an exciting opportunity for a Process Engineer to join the Water Production team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?
Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year, can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it’s so much more than this.
We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire’s water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing, and prosperity.
New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. Water Production are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.
Water Production is a close-knit dynamic environment, where water is continuously treated across the 50 Water Treatment Works to produce clean and safe drinking water to our valued customers. Water Treatment Works are large manufacturing facilities both with indoor and outside areas, using different chemicals and processes to change the water from reservoir or river water to drinking water, using lots of mechanical and electrical equipment. This is an operational role rather than a design or supervisory type Process Engineer role.
WHAT SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL NEED:
- The successful candidate will be multiskilled, have a hands-on practical approach. Ideally have previous Water Treatment understanding but this is not essential. A willingness to learn and be self-taught with an understanding or an awareness of regulatory Health, Safety and Environmental obligations. You will be analytical, keen to fault find, with the ability to review data and identify trends and issues.
- You will demonstrate rigorous attention to detail, to ensure ‘right first time’ performance and be proficient in the use of IT systems whilst having knowledge of risk policies and procedures. You will also embrace new technologies, innovation and be open to new ways of working in a fast-paced operational environment.
- You will be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a range of key internal and external stakeholders, including colleagues across the business and service partners.
- It is desirable that you have previous experience in a commercial orientated and/or regulated environment and previous experience gained within the water or wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process, or manufacturing industry sectors.
- As part of this role, you will be required to work within confined spaces therefore any successful candidate must pass strict medical criteria including, BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests to ensure your full safety when working in hazardous environments.
- If you wish to speak with us about any of these tests and how you may be impacted by these then please contact us before you submit an application, and we are happy to discuss this with you on an individual basis.
- As this role requires travel to different operational sites, a full, valid UK driving licence is a requirement of the role. We ask that you have no more than 6 points on your driving licence.
- Flexibility is key as you will need to respond to out of hours incidents, once fully trained in the role, this is managed on a rota basis.
