Job Description
Under direction of the Engineering Manager, the Wastewater Process Engineer will be primarily responsible for engineering and technical services activities at the SUEZ Water Long Island (SWLI) Nassau County Project, including three (3) WWTPs with a total capacity of 150 MGD, 3000 miles of sanitary sewers within the collection system and 54 lift stations serving, all serving 1.05 million customers. This position will be responsible for process control support at the three (3) advanced WWTPs, process modeling, engineering designs, construction management of assigned projects including the wastewater treatment plants, lift stations, collection system, and safety related projects. This will include technical assistance to operating personnel on capital project management and operational improvements, preparation of feasibility reports, preliminary/conceptual designs, sketch plans and outlines.
Primary function: Wastewater Process Control- Supports wastewater plant manager with regards to process performance and control, regulatory compliance, and reporting, applied studies and research. Supports maintenance with equipment and systems troubleshooting and optimization, technical planning, design, and construction support to projects.
Secondary function: Supports capital program engineering team by reviewing design documents with regards to technical, operation and maintenance input and support to large capital project planning, design, construction, and commissioning. Support new Efficiency Capital Improvement projects: due diligence, engineering evaluations and project startups.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree required in Environmental, Biological, or Chemical Engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred
- EIT (Engineer in Training) certification/license is desirable
- Five (5 +) years related experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required in Environmental, Biological, or Chemical Engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred
- EIT (Engineer in Training) certification/license is desirable
- Engineer in Training (preferred)
- Requires superior interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with client, public, employees, etc.
- Excellent management and organizational skills are required
- Must possess superior organizational skills and be able to prioritize and work simultaneously on several projects
- Ability to operate within a team atmosphere
- Ability to shift priorities frequently and effectively perform under pressure
- Valid NY Driver’s License
- Ability to operate computer, typewriter and other office machines as needed
- Strong mathematics and computer skills including process control software
- Must have strong communication skills both orally and written
- Desirable to obtain wastewater certifications and progress annually toward Grade IV license.
- Experience with process controls engineering, automation (SCADA and PLC) and controls systems engineering/programming a plus.
