Position Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen join the Engineering North team as the Process Engineering Manager. This role leads a team of Engineers, supporting 24/7 operations at the Macallan and Glenrothes distilleries in Speyside, the Highland Park distillery in Orkney and other sites. This role will be based on the Macallan Estate but travel to other sites is expected. The role is responsible for delivering all aspects of process maintenance to support compliant, optimised, cost-effective lifecycle assurance of all plant whilst networking collaboratively with the wider technical functions and stakeholders to deliver the wider Engineering Strategy.

Job Description

  • Leading, coaching and developing the Progress Engineering team to foster engagement, involvement, accountability and improvement through clearly defined roles and responsibilities, workload content, structure, and resource management
  • Working with a high degree of autonomy; delivering proactive Engineering support across the sites with focus on Compliance, Service, Resilience and Sustainability
  • Deliver process plant planned, reactive and condition-base maintenance, inspection, and testing, across the sites, including during the critical periods of shutdowns
  • Managing positive and close relationships with Site Managers, Team Leaders and wider operational teams
  • Supporting Engineering Compliance plans covering Management of Change, COMAH, DSEAR, PUWER, LOLER, Electrical and Pressure Systems and Building Standards
  • Planning and scheduling works to allocate manpower, contractors, materials, spare parts and other resources to deliver effective activity
  • Creating long-term maintenance plans to maintain assets efficiency and reliability, and drive improvement
  • Managing contractors on-site to ensure that work progresses smoothly and meets safety and quality standards within set timelines
  • Procuring appropriate cost-effective materials, equipment and consumables, including spares stock control
  • Making effective use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System
  • Developing and delivering focused improvements to drive plant uptime and cost competitiveness in line with operational excellence practices
  • Delivering capital expenditure projects ensuring oversight of budgets, timescales, and technical implementation
  • Managing the engineering workshops and stores for optimum operational support
  • Supporting the UK engineering team projects and initiatives as appropriate

Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you have extensive knowledge and a detailed understanding of process and production environments, with analytical skills that include the ability to assess and interpret engineering data with a highly systematic and logical approach. You are educated to degree level or equivalent experience within an engineering/ science discipline. You have previous leadership experience, ideally you have in depth knowledge of engineering, manufacturing, and operational excellence within the spirits/food & drinks/ oil & gas/heavy manufacturing or relevant industries. Extensive knowledge of engineering compliance, health & safety legislation and associated best practice. Succesful Project Management skills, able to deliver complex projects within agreed parameters. Good awareness of related supply chain processes such as Procurement, Planning, Finance and Logistics. Good understanding of TPM, CI tools such as LEAN and Six Sigma. Strong understanding of reliability engineering methodologies and the ability to implement in practice. A high level of PC literacy covering key business systems (Office 365 suite of software, SAP, AutoCAD and engineering maintenance and reporting systems). The leadership and influencing requirements of the role require you to be an experienced and skilled team manager.
