Description:

A Product Build Manager is a high-energy and organized individual demonstrating ability to negotiate with an awareness of company priorities. The individual should have strong technical and interpersonal skills that will be showcased through their leadership via example. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing Product builds so that they are delivered on budget and on time.

Success requires the ability to provide:

  • Highly motivated and driven by KPI success
  • Ability to lead, motivate, serve and empower a cross functional Operations Team
  • Key point of contact of Program and Operations Functional Managers
  • Timely management of issue escalation
  • Oversight of Macro Operations Flow
  • Build summaries and high-level status reports
  • Guidance to help the team prioritize activities and deliver on time.
  • Understanding of Project Management Professional best practices

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead a cross functional Engineering and/or Operations Team of about 10 people, with clear goals and timeline and partner with Operations Functional Managers to ensure a high performing team.
  • Own KPI Customer OTD, and oversee the process until assembly is shipped from Ballard dock
  • Drive shortage meetings with Planner and Buyer
  • Use collaboration work management tools such as JIRA to drive ownership; prioritization and completion of tasks
  • Ensure RASIC is being followed and clarify any ambiguities in interfaces
  • Resolve conflicts in timely manner (1:1 or through small meetings as needed)
  • Ensure correct mBOM released and loaded in Oracle. Ensure communication plan is followed when drawings and processes are modified or when Deviation is raised.
  • Sort components as needed: coordinate, pull resources, report status, set up build area etc.
  • Run the Gemba meetings, following Ops SQPDIP structure
  • Run PDCA events in between batches and implement any lessons learned encountered
  • Collaborate with the program core team to define baseline schedule, budget and resources and identify variances on a weekly basis
  • Identify mitigation strategies to get back on track and communicate issues on biweekly basis
  • Submit program change requests if the project is unable to resolve variances
  • Interface with external suppliers, customer and other stakeholders directly. Participate in meetings, and clearly communicate program needs and issues.
  • Prepare clear, concise program status reports with appropriate detail to broad stakeholder group including executive management, extended project team, functional managers and customer
  • Use critical thinking to make effective decisions to move project team forward with consideration of risk assessment and trade-off analyses

Requirements:

  • Ideal candidate will have a broad experience in project management with active PMP and/or Agile Scrum certification
  • 2-3 years relevant work experience in managing multi-discipline projects with proven ability to interface and work cooperatively across the organization
  • Experience in fuel cell system or automotive hardware, controls or software development life cycle
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and shift priorities as needed

The typical hiring range for this position is CAD$75,000 - CAD$93,000 per annum. In determining total compensation, Ballard considers many factors, including the successful Candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, experience, position location, and internal equity.
