Description:

QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience
  • Must either hold or be able to obtain Government of Canada Security Clearance up to the Secret level and access to controlled goods.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Background in mechanical/electrical/systems/aerospace engineering is preferred.
  • Experience with Solidworks, Mentor Graphics and/or OrCAD is preferred.
  • Experience with ENOVIA is preferred.
  • Knowledge of military communications is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project, Excel, Word and SAP preferred.

Responsibilities:

The Product Engineer applies sustainment principles to maintain and develop current technologies consisting of components, sub-systems, machines, tools and systems to ensure effective product line oversight. Responsible for primarily product line sustainment and improvement efforts. This is an individual contributor role reporting to hardware engineering and product line management.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in obsolescence monitoring activities that ensure that all products can be supported throughout the entirety of the product lifecycle.
  • Leads identification of alternate and replacement components that ensure that all products can continue to be offered while understanding what regression efforts are required to ensure that all requirements and specifications continue to be met.
  • Execute tests for systems, sub-systems and components as part of engineering assessments, feasibility studies and root cause analysis.
  • Will perform regression testing associated with diagnostic updates and new software releases to ensure that all changes are appropriate to issue to internal and external customers.
  • Supports execution and monitoring activities associated with conformance, compliance, and environmental standards for existing products.
  • Generates and updates technical documents for the products including user manuals, brochures, training modules. This also includes updating design documentation and build documentation where appropriate.
  • Responsible for release of engineering change order and manufacturing deviation documentation.
  • Will be responsible for generating technical documents including requirements capture, design and test documentation.
  • Will update existing product, subassembly, and component level BOMs and drawings for updates to support sustainment initiatives as needed.
  • Ensures existing product meets current RoHS and REACH compliance requirements.
  • May drive internal corporate lean initiatives to align local site with corporate model.
  • May be involved with supporting inputs needed for future outsource manufacturer selection processes including RFI and RFP stages.
  • May support manufacturing engineering and operations related activities during peak periods to ensure team success.
