Summary:
Duties & Responsibilities:
Junior PLM/Application Engineer Position
We are looking for a candidate with a background in science or engineering who is wanting to expand their career into a more commercial and business orientated role whilst still operating in a demanding technical environment. We are looking for someone with a background in fiber optics/ telecommunications. This role requires strong technical skills and a desire to learn about both test applications and business management. We expect the candidate to have an outgoing and sociable nature and be able to work with R&D teams, sales organization and customers. The person must be organized, detailed orientated, and be willing to learn and use business systems.
The candidate must have good communication skills and be proactive in working with the internal team and customers to find solutions for the fiber optic test needs whilst at the same time understanding business requirements and ROIs. This role will involve working with sales, other PLM, R&D and solution consultants and the candidate must have an aptitude for collaborative working and a drive to get things done. The candidate must be able to handle flexible work hours and a dynamic and changing working environment. The position will be based in the Viavi office, Ottawa but require working within a global organization. Travel will be about 20% (international).

Skills:

• Science or engineering background
• Must have a knowledge of fiber optics
• Proven team player with excellent communication skills
• 2 to 5 years experience in optical R&D
• Detail orientated and understand requirements of the business
• Test Automation

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Technical based degree with background in Optics (MBA an advantage)
• Excellent English.
• The candidate will have some experience building, qualifying and deploying manufacturing test systems in the communications or similar industry.
