Description:

Product Manager (DataGrip)
At JetBrains we’re searching for a talented individual to join our team in the essential role of Product Manager for our flagship database product, DataGrip.
Our mission
DataGrip is a multi-database IDE that provides support for all popular databases. Its functionality is fully built into all other JetBrains IDEs, but it still enjoys widespread use as a standalone product.
The database market is huge, and we mean HUGE. The competition is brutal: from free native tools to multi-database third-party IDEs.
Our current aim is to be the market’s number one commercial universal database tool, and we’re looking for a colleague who can help us achieve this goal. This unique role requires a candidate with the ability to balance in-depth technical understanding with big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality.
Who we are
Our team is relatively small. There are 12 of us in total, 6 of whom are software developers. We’re a flexible, independent, and informal team. This working environment did not just come about by chance. It’s the result of the hard work and contributions of all its members.
Your responsibilities

As DataGrip Product Manager, you’ll be mainly responsible for:

  • Product strategy: Collaborating with other product leaders to help craft and communicate a clear vision and strategy for the product, as well as keeping these elements aligned with the wider goals of the company and data business unit.
  • Market research: Work effectively with a research team to conduct market research so they can conduct market research to better understand customer needs, market trends, and the competitive landscape. We expect you to be able to perform a simple desk research independently and use the associated findings to inform product decisions.
  • Roadmap planning: Taking part in the creation of product roadmaps and contributing to release planning. This includes identifying what initiatives should be implemented and why, as well as prioritizing features and tasks based on their potential impact, resource constraints, and strategic importance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Working closely with cross-functional teams, including Research, Design, QA, Marketing, and Documentation to ensure that the product is delivered on time and meets quality standards.
  • Performance tracking: Defining, establishing, and tracking key indicators to measure the success of the product in general and its features in particular.
  • Communicating with users: Continuously gathering feedback from users and customers, working at conference booths, proactively engaging with our current and potential audience. Conduct interviews together with our sales and UX teams to learn more about user needs. Translate these insights into product requirements. In other words, be a user advocate.
  • User persona profiling: Gaining a deep understanding of DataGrip users, including developers, database administrators, data engineers, and data analysts, to prioritize features and enhancements that cater to their specific needs and workflows.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

BESIDES THE ABILITY TO PERFORM ALL THE TASKS ABOVE, WE EXPECT YOU TO HAVE:

  • Product understanding: Basic familiarity with DataGrip or similar database management tools, including its features, functionalities, and user interface, to effectively drive product strategy and roadmap planning.
  • Communication skills: Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with the product team and cross-functional teams. A safe and supportive environment is a crucial part of our team’s culture.
  • UI/UX understanding: A solid grounding in modern UX principles and best practices, and an ability to collaborate with designers to create intuitive and user-friendly interfaces that enhance the overall usability of DataGrip in line with the key priorities of DataGrip’s strategy.
  • Analytical skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze data, metrics, and user feedback so you can make informed decisions about product features, enhancements, and prioritization.
  • Strong English-language skills: Upper-intermediate or higher.
    Nice to have
Deep database expertise: In-depth knowledge and experience with various database management systems (DBMS) such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and others, including an understanding of SQL syntax, database design principles, and performance optimization techniques.
