Our one big team work fairly and effectively but most importantly together to ensure we maintain the foundations that have enabled IMI’s success through its 150-year heritage.

Responsibilities:

ROLE OVERVIEW

An engineering role within the Operations team, this position is responsible for producing all relevant documentation, routings, procedures, programs, tooling, and equipment to enable the successful manufacture and testing of various valves for the Oil & Gas, Nuclear and Marine sectors.
The role will also require supporting skilled operators with production of both prototypes and production products and liaising with design engineering to overcome production and testing issues. This role will focus on machining & automation of components; however, the successful candidate may also be required to assist with engineering support in other areas of the business where their skillset allows them to do so.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties will include but not be limited to:
§ Use CAM software to produce programs for a variety of multi-axis CNC machines, including 5-axis turn-mill, sliding head turn-mill and 5-axis milling.
§ Create set-up sheets for CNC machines to include all information about cutting tools, fixtures, and inspection equipment. Ensure additional key notes and photos are added to aid operators in setting up work to produce a first off right first time.
§ Support with the prove out of new programs across CNC machines ensuring that programs and set-up sheets are correct before handing the machine over to production.
§ Ensure updated CNC programs are returned in a timely manner, stored in the correct database location and CNC controls are kept clear of programs by the machine operators.
§ Support with, and make improvements to, a wide range of production techniques for machining of components, including manual machining, CNC machining, deburring, component finishing, cleaning, and metrology.
§ Assist production team with their day-to-day production requirements by providing them with technical assistance and problem-solving solutions.
§ Develop solutions for manufacturing components across the machine shop using standardised tooling and production methods wherever possible.
§ Design new cutting tools and work holding solutions where the needs of production cannot be met within a standard offering.
§ Identify defective products and processes that require a cross-functional team to review. Organise and lead RCAs to get to the root cause of an issue. Implement corrective actions to provide swift and permanent resolutions.
§ Identify waste within the manufacturing processes and lead continuous improvement activities and process improvements by organising meetings and workshops and actively contributing to the agreed action plan.
§ Review cost of products, and cost of poor quality by reviewing and responding to NCRs as required. Raise, and respond to, change requests to prevent reoccurrence of quality issues.
§ Maintain and apply lean principles to the machining environment.
§ Design jigs and fixtures using CAD (preferably 3D) for use in production, to ensure ease of use, consistency of manufacture and error proofing whilst following lean principles.
§ Provide detailed manufacturing procedures.
§ Monitor production output through utilisation, OEE and machine uptime reports. Analyse data and trends to implement improvement actions to work towards ‘world-class’ productivity.
§ Liaise with the design engineering department, reviewing new products before they are released into production. Conduct PFMEA’s to ensure that all designs are fit for manufacture at the most efficient cost.
§ Produce accurate and detailed production routes, specifying operation details, work centres, procedures, and time estimates for the in-house manufacture of products.
§ Contribute to value analysis and value engineering projects (VAVE) and deliver quality engineering production solutions in response to development, manufacturing, and operational needs.
§ Use the ERP/MRP system to add and maintain data owned by production engineering including part numbers, routes, bills of material, work centres and batch sizes.
§ Perform other such duties commensurate with the nature and level of the post as may be reasonably required.
