Description:

WHO WE ARE

Optiver is a global tech-driven trading firm, with offices in Amsterdam, Sydney, London, Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei, Chicago and Austin. Founded in 1986, today we are a leading liquidity provider, with close to 2,000 employees in offices around the world, united in our commitment to improve the market through competitive pricing, execution and risk management. By providing liquidity on multiple exchanges across the world in various financial instruments we participate in the safeguarding of healthy and efficient markets. We provide liquidity to financial markets using our own capital, at our own risk, trading a wide range of products: listed derivatives, cash equities, ETFs, bonds and foreign currencies.
Optiver’s Sydney office is one of the primary players within Asian markets, trading a range of products. Established in 1996, we’re an active participant on the Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Japan exchanges, and act as Optiver’s APAC head office.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL DO

We are looking for an experienced software engineer and team leader to lead our APAC Production Software Engineering team.
The Production Software Engineering team is responsible for all infrastructure, systems, tooling and workflows that enable our engineers to deploy, operate and observe our vast network of highly specialised and performance-sensitive trading systems. This team occupies a wide intersection of stakeholders across the business from operations to development, specifically focusing on scaling up change, increasing robustness, and reducing friction. Your contributions have the potential to directly enable a faster and safer innovation cycle for Optiver.
Our Production Software Engineers develop solutions using a mix of third party and in-house technologies, owning their changes end-to-end, including understanding the business problem, design, implementation, testing, deployment and monitoring. You will work closely with your team to support them on delivery where you see fit, such as requirements, architecture or implementation.
As a leader, you will be responsible for working with internal stakeholders across the company to define the team’s strategy and roadmap, and execute that vision with your team. You will be responsible for the overall architecture of the production environment, ensuring it evolves to meet the needs of the business. This is a hybrid role, so at times you’ll still be hands-on with coding.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Build and lead a high performance Production Software Engineering development team, including managing performance, career development and delivery
  • Lead the creation and delivery of the vision, strategy and roadmap for Optiver’s APAC’s for all aspects of production management
  • Ensure the architecture (infrastructure, systems, tools, workflows) of our production environment evolves in a manner that meets the needs of our engineers and the systems that are deployed to it
  • Work collaboratively with engineers in our Europe/US offices to drive convergence of our production environments over time
  • Work with stakeholders to establish or improve feedback loops across all aspects of production management
  • Spend some of your time developing and delivering code to production

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Experience leading and developing a team
  • 10+ years experience in software engineering (Python would be highly beneficial)
  • A broad understanding of the wider technology including networks, hardware, OS, databases, web servers and applications
  • The ability to bring an improvement mindset and critical eye to complex operational challenges and system
