Job Summary
Direct and coordinate all manufacturing activities as they relate to the production requirements and people development, to effectively process the overall workload with a focus on continuous improvement to achieve complete customer satisfaction.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Air conditioned/heated manufacturing facility with possible exposure to noise; dust; fumes; physical, chemical, and biohazards; solvents, oils, and detergents.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- College or technical school certification, or equivalent experience in gear industry.
- Minimum of five years of experience in machine shop atmosphere.
- Previous Supervisory or Management experience in manufacturing.
- Gear cutting technology preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Self-Driven to succeed.
- Ability to balance many activities at once and establish priority.
- Must have excellent organizational skill.
- Must be able to adapt easily to change.
- Able to establish and execute plans.
- Ability to effectively direct personnel.
- Must be able to communicate in English.
- Good computer knowledge and skill including Microsoft Office and appropriate manufacturing software programs

Responsibilities:
- Supervision of personnel and workload:
- Monitoring workload by department/work cell to maximize effective utilization of workforce. Inform Production Mgr. of potential delays/issues, so they can be addressed.
- Understand and utilize ERP system to drive daily priorities and meet/maintain a Zero Backlog by completing on-time shipments to the customer.
- Consult with Material Planner and Shipping Supervisor to plan for return and completion of parts at outside processing.
- Verify incoming material with the Shipping Department and the Material Handler.
- Ensure that you follow the ERP system (1st operations) to see that jobs have begun at least (8) weeks prior to ship date. Ensure that operations are being completed with respect to the due date.
- Identifying areas and employees that should be cross-trained. Develop and maintain a flexible workforce that can move with the workload.
- Identify potential bottleneck areas, so that with the proper planning and workforce supervision there will be no interruption to the on-time completion of shop orders.
- Monitoring employee productivity and provide feedback as necessary.
- Communicate and coordinate finished goods timeline with Production Mgr.
- Supporting process execution and improvement to achieve monthly scrap goal and targeted sales budget.
- Meet or exceed company goals for quality (PPM’s and rework).
- Develop and monitor production schedules for all machining departments. Coordinate execution of schedule with group leads and employees.
- Work with other departments to ensure product continues to move throughout the shop. Help establish working priority for other areas.
- Monitor open work order report to ensure completed orders are closed in the system.
- Assist with job staging.
- Maintain organization and accuracy of incoming product inventory by working with Material Handler.
- This position is the Supervisor to Production Employees and the Material Handler

- Practicing good housekeeping and maintain a tour ready facility.
- Responsible for supporting the Schafer Business Process by:
- Fully enforcing all ISO 9001 and AS9100 requirements, company policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Fostering a continuous improvement philosophy.
- Training and implementing Lean and 6S business practices.
- Communicating with QA department for training needs, policy adjustments, and rework instructions.
- Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the company by:
- Promoting continuous improvement via employee involvement.
- Utilizing a team environment for process improvement and problem resolution.
- Providing a safe working environment with a goal of zero accidents.
- Increase employee morale through proper training, mentoring, and positive reinforcement.
