POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a Professional Rater II with comfort and familiarity working with children and diverse families, and strong research and organizational skills. This position will be involved with two ongoing studies within the Early Emotional Development Program (EEDP) in the Department of Child Psychiatry. These studies primarily investigate relationships between early experiences, emotional development, and child psychopathology. We use methods that include parent and child interviews, child-friendly behavioral tasks, and administering EEGs (i.e., a measure of children’s brain activity) to children.
Specifically, this position will assist study coordinators in numerous phases of the Suicidal Thoughts and Action Research in Kids (STARK) study which examines suicidality in four to seven year old children, coding of child assessments from the eLABE study, and possible other studies as needed. Able to work flexible hours, including a minimum of two Saturdays per month. For the STARK study, this position will assist with tasks that include recruiting participants, administering semi-structured clinical interviews, behavioral tasks, and EEG/ERPs, completing administrative study tasks, and helping to coordinate undergraduate students who are assisting with the study. In addition, this position will assist in coding young children’s affiliative temperament (i.e., extent to which children desire to socially connect with others and gain pleasure from these interactions) and moral emotions and behaviors such as empathy, prosocial behaviors, and guilt in eLABE assessments.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Conducting clinical assessments with children.
  • Conducting behavioral tasks and administering EEGs to children.
  • Managing day-to-day aspects of the studies including consenting participants, running assessments, updating study protocols, and assisting with IRB.
  • Behavioral coding, including coordination of coding teams.
  • Administrative tasks including scheduling, recruitment, etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work or a related field plus a minimum of one year of relevant experience; a combination of work and education equaling five years may substitute for this requirement.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Responsibilities:

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruits, screens, interviews, and schedules participants for study per protocol.
  • Administers child behavioral assessments for child participants ages four to fifteen, in addition to parent assessments. Guides parents and participants through the process by providing thorough instructions and responding appropriately to participant concerns.
  • Performs data entry and filing in accordance with study guidelines.
  • Evaluates research results, reporting findings and discussing project outcomes
  • Refers patients to resources available in community and social services.
  • Maintains proper documentation and record keeping.
  • Codes infant and child videos based on existing and developing protocols.
  • Confers with management as requested.
  • Performs in accordance with Good Clinical Practice.
