UPMC Mercy is searching for a full-time Professional Staff Nurse to support our 11E Burn, Trauma, Ortho Unit! This full-time nurse position will work 3 x 12-hour shifts each week, with shift times typically starting at 7am and 7pm. When you work an overnight shift, you will receive an extra $2.00 per hour on top of your base pay. Whether you are a soon-to-be nurse graduate or you have previous experience, we invite you to join our incredible 11E team today! This unit offers a sign-on bonus up to $15,000 for new nurses an $20,000 for those with at least 1 year of nursing experience!
11E is a 39-bed Acute Care Unit specializing in trauma, orthopedic, and burn care. Our plastic surgery team partners with the burn and ortho specialties to reconstruct tissue by graft or flap providing a sense of hope and healing for our patients. A positive and supportive environment is fostered, emphasizing strong teamwork and the sharing of knowledge among all disciplines to ensure the best possible outcomes. The staff works closely with the Acute Interventional Perioperative Pain Service team to manage pain in the form of nerve blocks, continuous infusions, and PCA pumps to ensure our patients’ comfort. The 11E team is proud to have a therapy gym directly on the unit to focus on initiating the rehabilitative and recovery process the first day of admission. 11E is the ideal place to establish a foundation for critical thinking. On 11E have adopted the Models of Care approach to patient care. This team-based approach enhances patient care by partnering nurses with nonclinical support staff and encourages a higher level of collaboration while promoting a team culture. Responsibilities:

  • Zero years of experience required.
  • Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience. Minimum salary for GNs is $29.77/hour. GNs must be eligible for State Board Licensure.
  • BSN preferred.
  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
  • They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients’ requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
